  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger (for filling)
  • 1 stick butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons molasses (for filling)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (for frosting)
  • 6 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons molasses (for frosting)
  • 2 tsp ground ginger (for frosting)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, brown sugar, salt, and ground ginger.
  2. Add warmed milk, eggs, softened butter, molasses, and vanilla; stir until combined.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl; cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon, ground ginger, softened butter, and molasses.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread filling evenly on top.
  7. Roll tightly into a log; cut into slices and place in greased pans.
  8. Let rolls rise again (30 minutes) while preheating oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown; cool slightly before frosting.
