  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • Cornstarch (for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, mix together 1 tbsp soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add the beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Onions: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
  3. Sear the Beef: Increase heat to high and add 2 tbsp oil to the same pan. Quickly add marinated beef strips and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Make the Sauce: Whisk together remaining soy sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a bowl. Pour over the beef and simmer until thickened.
  5. Combine & Serve: Stir in the cooked onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
